It wasn't that Harbinger didn't like his familiar; it's that Zèl, the chicken, constantly roasted him about being Harbinger's first attempt at voodoo. It didn't go well for either of them, but as you may suspect, becoming a mostly-dead-chicken familiar wasn't the worst thing that happened to Zèl that day.
