The tension between a fear of being abandoned and also not wanting to be seen so corporate data gathering doesn't really get you
I did that Amazon shopping preferences thing. I wear clothes, buy cables, and read books I'm told. Am I even real to you?
Can you really be abandoned if corporations are always watching? Can we really be seen if we don't shop on black Friday, xmas, prime day, prime deal days, and whatever the fuck consumerist holiday will appear this quarter? I'll check in with the tracking pixel what they are planing.
Me, I'm afraid of being left. It's a deep-set fear from being a 5th child that was far quieter than the rest and of literally being forgotten some days. But we live in the most attentive era in human history. Every click logged. Every scroll measured. I go looking for shoes and trip over my own abandoned cart, kindly placed right between me and anything else I may want to do online.
Nobody abandons an abandoned cart; nobody.
Do they miss me? Sure. They'd notice within days if I vanished. Some days my family forgot me. Amazon never will.
I'd show up as churn.
