I held no hopes but last night was a batshit midterm
I don't have a lot to say about the midterms, exactly, as I'm not a political expert. But the results are absolutely bananas. The current admin has absolutely crashed out despite getting elected with a LOT of support.
And as a Wisconsinite, seeing the state legislature flip after over a decade of absolute idiots running the show, I'm looking forward for the first time in a while.
The shift graph is astonishing.

But I am especially heartened by the ste of firsts happening in unlikely places.
Keisha Lance Bottoms (GA): first Black woman elected governor
- Georgia Recorder: includes her Crawfordville line. She noted the town produced the Confederacy's vice president, and said that night it also produced the next governor.
- The 19th: focuses on what the milestone means to Black women voters in Georgia
Deb Haaland (NM): first Native American woman governor
Peggy Flanagan (MN): first Native American woman elected to the Senate
- Minnesota Reformer: the White Earth chairman and other Native men played a victory song on a large drum at her watch party
Abdul El-Sayed (MI): first Muslim senator
- Al Jazeera: frames the win around anti-Muslim attacks led by Trump
- Detroit News
Chris Pappas (NH): first openly gay man elected to the Senate
- New Hampshire Bulletin: he spoke from his family's Puritan restaurant in Manchester
- Boston Globe
David Crowley (WI): first Black governor of Wisconsin
- Wisconsin Examiner: mostly about the scene among supporters
- WPR
Gina Hinojosa (TX): first Latina governor of Texas
- KSAT: also notes she's the first governor from the Rio Grande Valley
A modicum of hope for the newer generation of politicians.
